700 Sagaynon youth joins Kinaadman workshop

ABOUT 700 kids and teenagers joined the 20-day “Kinaadman” performing and visual arts workshop of the Council for the Protection of Children of Sagay City.

The workshop kicked off at the Sagay City Government Center on April 22 and will end on May 17.

This annual workshop aims to develop the talents of the Sagaynon children, said Leah Abalona, focal person of the Council for the Protection of Children.

Abalona said that since the workshop is already at its fifth year, this project is meant to give the kids a worthwhile learning experience during their summer break and enjoying the workshops with new gained friends.

“Some of these kids started as early as 5 years old and some of them are already in high school and still continue to join the workshops every summer,” she added.

There are 17 free classes offered in this 20-day workshop, which will end through a recital on May 17.

Among the classes were Basic Guitar mentored by Jonas Dequito; Drums by Reiner Mark Medina; Keyboard by Nissi Micabel; Photography by Ronald Villar; Hawaiian Dance by Charity Labioso; Painting, Pencil Rendering, and Clay Sculpture, all by Adonis Sollano; Pop Dance and Contemporary Dance by Rema Aguirre; Latin-American Dance Sports by Archel Lacre; Voice for 11 years old and below by Nissi Micabel; Voice for 12 years old and above by Chaz Katalbas; Basic Journalism by Mark Raymund Garcia; Public Speaking by Philamer Pedrina; Modeling by Edson Asuelo; Theatre by Sarah Pasilan; and Folk Dance by Daisy Sayson and Dominic de los Santos.

Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III urged the parents of the participants to continue inspiring and encouraging their children to development their talents.

“I am proud to say that these children have been performing for audiences during city and provincial activities and even to foreign visitors in Sagay. I am to see the improvement of the participants from year to year,” Marañon said during the launching. (PR)
