THE Department of Public Services (DPS) of the Cebu City government assured that the garbage collection in the city will not be affected despite the temporary suspension of the operation of the private landfill in Consolacion.

John Paul Gelasque, DPS assistant department head said that management of Jomara Konstruct Corp., the private hauler of the city’s garbage, is already talking to the operator of a private landfill in Barangay Binaliw to allow them to temporarily throw garbage there.

“I already called the manager of Jomara and she assured me that whatever problem in Consolacion, they can dispose our garbage in Binaliw landfill,” he said.

Jomara has been disposing the City's garbage collected and stored at the transfer station to the private landfill in Consolacion.

Jomara has an existing contract with City for garbage hauling and disposal until June 30. Gelasque also assured that garbage collection in the entire city is not affected by the temporary suspension of operation of the private landfill in Consolacion.

“There's no disruption in our garbage collection because it will be the responsibility of Jomara to find a landfill where they can dispose our garbage because we're paying them for that,” he said.
