A MARCH for change will be the theme of the miting de avance of Barug PDP-Laban Wednesday night, May 8, at the back of San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish Church on C. Padilla St., Cebu City.

Former Cebu City mayor Michael Rama said they chose the venue since they were not allowed to use Plaza Independencia and Fuente Osmeña, and the Cebu City Sports Center is not available.

Rama, who will run for vice mayor after sliding down to the position in favor of current Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella who is running against Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña in the May 13 elections, said this political rally will be unique because people who are calling for a change in leadership at City Hall, will be walking to the venue because they don’t have vehicles available for use.

Rama apparently alluded to the barangay vehicles that were returned to City Hall following Osmeña’s directive last March 2019 to recall the vehicles of barangays Cambinocot and Pamutan.

But Rama clarified that supporters coming from mountain barangays will be transported to the venue in public vehicles.

The organizers estimate 100,000 people will join the miting de avance which will start at 8 p.m.

PDP-Laban senatorial candidates are expected to join the rally especially those endorsed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio even though there were no invitation letters sent to them, Rama said.

LED screens will be put up in the venue.

The private cars can avoid the traffic along C. Padilla St. by taking the Leon Kilat, Borromeo and Magallanes streets in going to the Pasil area and N. Bacalso Ave. Motorists going south could also take the South Coastal Road.

Rama likewise apologized to commuters who will be affected by the expected traffic jam in the San Nicolas area.

Meanwhila, Labella said Barug PDP-Laban will not distribute sacks of rice, shirts and other freebies during the event unlike the miting de avance held by the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan on Sunday, May 5. (From PAC of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL, VLA)
