TWO members of the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) were wounded in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Wednesday, May 8.
Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday at Purok 1 in Lower Panikian village, Pitogo town.
Galvez identified the victims as Roland Tambiling, 49, a farmer; and Emillano Bagares, 42, a fisherman; and both members of the CVO.
The CVO are assisting the police authorities in the maintenance of peace and order in the community they stay.
Galvez said the victims were inside their respective residences when unidentified gunmen clad in fatigue uniforms and ski masks arrived and opened fire hitting both victims.
The suspects fled towards Matin-ao village, Pitogo, after the incident.
Recovered from the crime scene were 16 empty shells and one dud bullet of M-16 Armalite rifle and seven empty shells of M-14 rifle. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
