Marines lead Hope caravan in Sultan Kudarat

AN ELECTION official encouraged the residents of two towns in Sultan Kudarat to exercise their right of suffrage and stand firm against vote buying come the May 13 midterm polls.

“Huwag ipagpalit ang boto sa pera o anumang bagay na may halaga,” Lebak election officer Marlon Suganob told the participants during the culmination of a caravan initiated by the 1st Marine Brigade in Lebak and Kalamansig towns in Sultan Kudarat.

The caravan, which was held on Sunday, May 5, started at the Kalayaan Park in the municipality of Kalamansig and ended at the town kiosk of Lebak.

The caravan was aimed to apprise the public of the efforts and the oneness of the government agencies in the campaign for an honest, orderly and peaceful election (Hope).

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Eugenio Hernandez, 1st Marine Brigade commander, has assured the public that they will do their mandate to secure and protect all polling centers and the community on election day.

“The political process does not end on Election Day, we have to stay involved in the process by continuously paying attention to what they had promised,” said Major General Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Central commander.

“Your AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) will never be below you, will never be above you, but always beside you,” added Sobejana, who is also the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, described the caravan as “one activity where all the line agencies gather to strengthen solidarity in preparation for the 2019 mid-term elections on Monday.

“I personally commend the troops of the 1st Marine Brigade for initiating such activity,” Dela Vega added.

The caravan was participated by representatives from the different public and private sectors including the Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials; Municipal Police Stations of Lebak and Kalamansig; Bureau of Fire-Lebak; Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) second engineering district; Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV); Lebak bikers; Lebak and Kalamansig Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association; Marine Reservists; 1st Marine Brigade; Marine Battalion Landing Team-2; and Marine Battalion Landing Team-5.

The caravan culminated with the releasing of doves that signify the oneness of all sectors in the campaign for peaceful election. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
