NPA rebels attack RPA settlement; 2 killed, 3 wounded

TWO members of Kapatiran formerly known as Revolutionary Proletarian Army- Alex Bongcayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) were killed and three others were wounded when their settlement area was attacked by suspected members of the New People's Army in Sitio Ilan, Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan City.

The fatalities were identified as Jhonel Marabebe and Florencio Vergara alias Bogie while wounded were identified as Jonathan Pagados, Ramil Banista and a certain Ruel.

Kabankalan Philippine National Police station reported that based on the statement of one of the victims that while he was sleeping at a school building he heard bursts of fire.

Instinctively he sought cover but he was hit on his back. He managed to crawl from the building and was able to escape.

He stated that he saw 5 armed men with flashlights outside the building.

The wounded victims were brought to the different hospitals in Bacolod City and Kabankalan City.

Military reports indicated that there were about 30 suspected rebels who carried out the attack.

RPA- ABB has changed their name to Kapatiran Para sa Progresibong Panlipunan, Inc. as part of its institutional transformation.

Part of the its peace agreement with the government is providing their members of settlement areas located in the different parts of the country. (TDE)
