3 locals join reality show

CEBUANOS Rimon Rama, Lejun Retuerto and April Jay Abne will be a part of the roster of Gerrypens Promotions and ESPN5’s upcoming boxing reality show Ultimate Boxing Series—Kamaong Pinoy.

Rama and Retuerto will be competing in the bantamweight division, while Abne will fight at super flyweight.

Rama, 22-year-old native of Mandaue City, is looking to come back strong after a long layoff. He hasn’t fought for 18 months since losing to Richard Bulacan by unanimous decision. He has a 6-1-1 slate with four knockouts.

Retuerto, on the other hand, is unbeaten since he made his debut in 2015 at 18 years old. However, he hasn’t fought for more than two years after his third round stoppage over Ernie Mino Jr. in 2016. The 21-year-old Retuerto, a native of Medellin, is 4-0 with four knockouts.

Rama and Retuerto, who both tried out in Cebu, will be competing in the bantamweight contest against Dave Borlas (4-0-1, 3 KOs), 19-year-old Lienard Sarcon (4-0, 1 KO), Aljum Pelecio (7-0, 5 KOs), Ken Jordan (7-1-1, 6 KOs), John Mark Tihuk (2-0-1, 1 KO) and 19-year-old Gary Tamayo. Luis Borje (2-0, 1 KO) and Kevin Aseniero (8-2, 4 KOs) are reserves in case somebody gets injured.

Abne just made his pro debut this year, scoring an opening round stoppage against fellow newcomer Marvin Laping. He’ll be up against more experienced competition in Cristoval Furog (6-1, 2 KOs), 19-year-old Ruben Dadivas (5-0, 3 KOs), Ronel dela Cruz (6-0-1, 4 KOs), Denmark Quibido (8-0-1, 5 KOs), Ronel Sumalpong (6-1-1, 5 KOs), Welben Montere (2-0-1, 1 KO) and 19-year-old Joseph Bayubay (3-0-2, 2 KOs). The reserves are Ian Refuela, a Cebu-based boxer and runner, and Rey Tagulaylay (6-2, 2 KOs). (EKA)
