WITH the afternoon rains, Kennon Road will remain closed to traffic.

During a recent meeting, members of Task Force Kennon Road decided the road will remain close for safety purposes.

Albert Mogol, Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) chairman and Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera (OCD-CAR) director, said the task force unanimously decided for the continued closure of Kennon.

“Members of Task Force Kennon Road have unanimously decided to continue the closure of Kennon Road to traffic except for the residents to ensure no untoward vehicular traffic accidents may occur especially now that we continue to experience afternoon rains in this part of the Cordillera,” Mogol said.

The decision was rendered by representatives from the local government unit of Tuba, PhilVocs, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-Cordillera), Mines and Geo Sciences Bureau (MGB-Cordillera), Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), Philippine Air Force and other stakeholders.

Despite the inconvenience to motorist going up to Baguio City, the CDRMMC in its decision have placed a premium to the safety of the riding public who may be victims of possible landslides along the historic route.

Meanwhile, CDRRMC will open Kennon Road for the exclusive use of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) who will be transporting election paraphernalia in the different voting precincts along Kennon for the May 13 midterm elections.

“We have considered this and we will be giving priority for the Comelec to do its function,” Mogol added.
