BAGUIO youth are crying foul over dirty politics.

A probe on hate messages against a political candidate using a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairperson is set here in Baguio City.

SK federation president and councilor Levy Lloyd Orcales said a consultation with the National Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Division is scheduled to get to the bottom of text messages circulating and alleging an SK chairperson is mistress to a politician.

Orcales said the messages have made its rounds and have hit the family of the SK leader hard, reeling from its backlash and now a victim of political propaganda with her reputation tarnished.

In response to the attacks, the SK has released a solidarity statement to appeal to all to spare the youth in black propaganda and call for solidarity.

“Stop spreading lies to the public, it is no secret to us that the midterm election is nearing but we call on all who can read our statement, do not drag our members in any form of political propaganda that is fictitious, unfounded and downright slanderous. We are deeply dismayed by these derogatory acts. We will protect and defend the integrity of our SK members. We are one,” the statement reads.

Orcales said the SK is not endorsing any candidate and do not engage in campaigning.

“We understand that it is election season, but please let us bring out the truth, to candidates, please bring out your achievements, your credentials, take advantage of social media in a good way,” Orcales said.

The solidarity statement signed by twenty district coordinators representing the 128 SK chairpersons in the city added “we the officers and members of the SK federation of Baguio City express our disgust and abhorrence to the recently circulating SMS that maliciously links our SK chairperson to a certain political personality. There is no truth to the context of the text message.”

“Any other form of downgrading baseless accusations or allegations linking SK’s of Baguio should not be tolerated. Not because we are mere young of the city does not mean we would let this kind of abusive treatment. This is moral damage to us personally and to the aims and principles we adhere to as beacons of youth empowerment,” the statement added.

The youth statement lamented “how can we prove ourselves if we certain people drag us down to the pits of misjudgment and immoral acts that we ourselves cannot fathom. We will not back down, where is this kind of audacity coming from, that we your children, the future of the next generation to come, has been prejudged and trampled upon by our very own mother and father figures. This is madness.”

Orcales said the SK youth are both sad and angry at what politics in the city has become.
