Sungduan: Kalinga Day 2019

AMID the rain, members of the Association of Ikalingas in Macau celebrated their 7th year anniversary with the cultural presentation as one of the highlights of the event.

The overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) representing the different municipalities and city of the province showcased the best of the best performance as reflected in their colorful and meaningful indigenous dance performance in celebration of Kalinga Day at Dr. Sun Yat Sen Municipal Park.

Vlogger, reporter, and OFW Czarina Bawing, who is based from Hong Kong, said the occasion, which started with a prayer, was even more memorable with the participation of the different Cordilleran organizations in Macau that are from Mountain Province, Benguet and Abra, including

a cordilleran group in Hong Kong who presented a glimpse of their rich culture through their own tribal dances.

Association of Ikalingas in Macau OIC Chuckron Malaggay said they really need to have an indigenous pursuit so they will not forget what they practice in their homeland.

“Despite of everyone's busy schedule, they came and support us all through out,” Malaggay added.

Happy to be part of the celebration is Macao-based Cordilleran OFW Pedro Lardizabal III who also documented the successful event warmly supported by the kailians.

“Kahit umuulan, tuloy ang selebrasyon,” he said.

Prior to that, Kalinga Day was also celebrated in Hong Kong with the Kalinga Province Workers Association (KAPWA) as the organizer.

Dubbed “Celebrating our Identity as Ikalingas,” the activity held lately at the City Hall Ground, Edinburgh Place, Central started with a parade joined by the different municipalities of Kalinga.

The event was attended by the Assistant Labor Attache’ of the Philippine General Consulate, Antonio Villafuerte, OFWS in Macau, and visitors from the Philippines.

Other activities include the Cultural Competition, Salidumay Competition, and the Ms. Kalinga search and Coronation.

Crowned as Ms. Kalinga HK 2019 is Ms. Pasil- Christina Baqui, 1st Runner-up Ms. Tanudan-Kimberly Tawatao, 2nd Runner-up Ms. Lubuagan- Brenda Tabbang , and 3rd Runner-up Ms. Tabuk- Maidee Lumawig.

Being an OFW is not easy, but with this endeavor, life becomes better for them as there is always something to look forward to. Also, they help in preserving their rich culture even abroad.
