DAVAO Light and Power Co. (DLPC) has mapped out contingency plans for possible power interruptions should it happen during Election Day, May 13.

DLPC assistant vice-president for Reputation Enhancement Department Rossano Luga told the reporters on Thursday, May 9, that the company coordinated with various agencies including the Commission on Elections and the Department of Education on what actions to take in case the problem occurs.

“We advise them to please check their load sites prior to the Election Day,” Luga said during the iSpeak forum at the Davao City Hall conference room.

The DLPC officer also reminded teachers not to overload the convenience outlets to avoid any possible electric supply fluctuation, which would possibly result to fire.

“Gitagaan napud namo silag listahan sa mga numbers sa mga accredited electricians basig gusto nila i-inspect or kinahanglan nila during the election (We already gave them the list of contact numbers of accredited electricians in case they needed to conduct an inspection or they would be in need during election day),” Luga said, adding that polling areas will no longer be under DLPC jurisdiction.

He also assured that Davao City has enough power supply considering that it is a holiday, and only few offices will be operating.

Luga, however, said, since DLPC is a distribution utility, he said the company cannot guarantee immediate action in case generation plants would shut down or transmission problems.

He also said there is no scheduled brownout on Monday.

Meanwhile, Energy Industry Management Chief Nilo Geroche of the Department of Energy also assured ample power in Mindanao during the midterm elections.

Geroche said they already created the Energy Task Force Election to secure energy facilities during the May 13 poll.
