Limpag: Sports and matrix

FORMER collegiate star and now TV personality Gretchen Ho is in the matrix and so is Olympian Hidilyn Diaz. Their crimes? I don’t know. For an office that gets P2.5 billion intelligence funds, the Office of the President sure makes intelligence a misnomer.

Diaz? Seriously? Plotting to oust Digong? Only an idiot would believe such. Heck, that piece of paper branded by Salvador Panelo is as believable as another piece of paper showing links on how Gilas Pilipinas will win the gold medal in World Championships in China in August.

But now that these “unnamed intelligence agencies” have touched on sports personalities regarding the Oust Duterte movement, I hope these same agencies will also dig deeper on the issue on Philippine sports. And perhaps, while they’re at it, they could share a matrix or two about Philippine sports?

For starters, they can seek help from the Philippine Sports Commission, who has been so vocal about cleaning house and weeding out corruption in sports. Though strangely enough, they’ve been silent the past few months. The PSC is still chasing after those millions of pesos in unliquidated cash advances under the previous administration. You know, that previous administration whom we all blame for the ills in society.

They love to put the blame on the Aquinos and the biggest problem in Philippine sports is the mess Peping Cojuangco left behind. They don’t have a matrix for that? In case you miss the obvious, Peping is Noynoy’s uncle.

Why? Is it because Peping was one of the first in PHL sports to scratch Digong’s back?

Peping’s dipping into affairs that he has no business in, is still felt in bowling, volleyball Dragon boat and table tennis. He had, according to Charly Holganza, the legitimate national sports associations of these four sports replaced illegally by his own handpicked men.

Poor Philippine Dragon boat Association, after working hard to get the sport into mainstream consciousness a few years ago, they lost the mandate to run the sport after Peping placed it under the Philippine Canoe Kayak Association.

Anyway, if they really want to dig dirt in Philippine sports, and not manufacture dirt as in the case of poor Ho and Diaz, they can do so the right way. But of course, dirt in sports won’t get you votes this Monday, right?
