Zamboanga City gov’t to wrap up sports programs

THE Zamboanga City’s summer sports program will officially wrap up Saturday, May 11, concluding a month of sports instruction, training, and discipline for young Zamboangueños.

Dr. Cecile Atilano, city sports development officer, said the Summer Learn to Play program will conclude its 24th year with a closing program to be held at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex at 4 p.m. with the presence of local officials, coaches and athletes, and guests.

An initiative of the city sports division, Atailano said this year’s summer sports program mentored some 4,500 aspiring young athletes in 26 sport events from April 6 to May 11.

She said the sport events were held in different villages and sports facilities under the supervision of 270 coaches and trainers.

With a budget of P1 million, the program offered 26 sport events - archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball/softball, body building, boxing, chess, dancesport, football/futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, muay thai, pencak silat, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and e-one 7.
