Del Rosario: Knowledge, intelligence, and wisdom

Are you knowledgeable?

Are you intelligent?

Are you wise, and full of wisdom?

SELDOM is one so gifted to be all of the above. If you had to choose one, which would you rather be? Knowledgeable? Intelligent? Or Wise?

To be knowledgeable is to know about things or have information, ideas, data, etc. This would be very helpful as a teacher, consultant, student, contestant in game shows, speaker in impromptu competitions, contestant in the question and answer portion of beauty competitions, or as a Mr. Know-It-All walking encyclopedia.

(Before the onset of Google, and techno gadgets which give us quick access to almost any information.)

To be intelligent is having the ability to comprehend, to understand, and to gain from experience. Some people are born with a higher level of intelligence. Some can comprehend science, math, chemistry, physics, pharmacology, engineering, etc.; while others can understand business, economics, banking, humanities, sociology, philosophy, psychology, etc.

Others have a higher level of understanding and analyzing people and excel in human relationship skills. Certain tests determine one’s Intelligence Quotient (I.Q.), while other tests determine one’s Emotional Quotient (E.Q.).

Some say, you need I.Q. to get into some jobs, but for most jobs, you need E.Q. to succeed.

To be wise is to have the ability to apply, or put into practice, one’s accumulated knowledge. As I often say, knowledge without application or execution is useless.

Proverbs 3:13-15 says, “Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding; for she is more profitable than silver, and more profitable than gold; she is more precious than rubies; and nothing you desire can compare with her”.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and understanding.”

Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Can you have Knowledge, Intelligence, and Wisdom?

My Dearest Michael, Family, Children and Grandchildren,

Go to school, read books and newspapers, attend seminars, listen to experts in their fields of endeavor, google and search the internet, and access other options and opportunities to gain knowledge.

Make use of your God-given intelligence and reach your potential in what God wired you to be good in. Enhance your human relationship skills and learn to manage your emotions.

Fear the Lord, know His ways, follow His commands, be in the company of good and wise people, apply what you learn as you enhance your knowledge and hone your skills, and learn from the experiences of others as well as from your own.

Learn and Apply. Learn and Grow. Grow in Wisdom.

Let me share with you a nice forward on Intelligence and Wisdom:

1. Intelligence leads to arguments.

Wisdom leads to settlements.

2. Intelligence is power of will.

Wisdom is power over will.

3. Intelligence is heat, it burns.

Wisdom is warmth, it comforts.

4. Intelligence is pursuit of knowledge, it tires the seeker.

Wisdom is pursuit of truth, it inspires the seeker.

5. Intelligence is holding on,

Wisdom is (knowing when) letting go.

6. Intelligence leads you.

Wisdom guides you.

7. An intelligent man often thinks he knows everything.

A wise man knows there is more to learn.

8. An intelligent man tries to prove his point.

A wise man knows there really is no point (in arguing)

9. An intelligent man freely gives unsolicited advice.

(A wise man charges for it. NO. Just kidding!)

A wise man keeps his counsel until all options are considered.

(an acronym I often use - CAO – Consider All Options)

10. An intelligent man understands what is being said.

A wise man understands what is left unsaid.

11. An intelligent man speaks when he has to say something.

A wise man speaks when he has something to say.

12. An intelligent man preaches.

A wise man reaches.

(I need to work on this!)

Having Knowledge is good.

Being intelligent is great.

But aspire to have wisdom.
