Lazatin: ‘Angeles City more than qualified for lone district status’

MABALACAT CITY -- Pampanga 1st District First Rep. Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II said Angeles City is more than qualified to become a separate congressional district in terms of population.

The congressman made this statement during Pampanga Press Club’s Talk Widus forum the other day.

With the creation of the Angeles City lone district, Mabalacat City and Magalang town will become Pampanga’s First Legislative District, according to the Lazatin.

The solon said that during the time of his father, Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin and Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno, the redistricting of Angeles City was filed in Congress and even reached the Senate.

However, the proposed bill for the Angeles City lone district did not materialize, Lazatin said.

“Kasi ni-research ko kung ano yung flow ng lone districting ng Angeles City,” he added.

Angeles City is a first class highly-urbanized city in the region of Central Luzon. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 411,634 people.

With a combined population, Mabalacat City and Magalang town also qualify to become a separate district, according to Lazatin.

“Population, basic requirement. Sobra sobra sa qualified. Kahit ang pagiging first district ng Magalang at Mabalacat qualified,” he added.
