What: “Beyond the Womb,” an art exhibit by Katrina Gaisano-Lee

Where: Marco Polo Davao

Who came: Art lovers, family and friends

IT WAS the first solo exhibit in Davao of contemporary artist Katrina Gaisano-Lee. Using her preferred mediums of acrylic and inks, the artist interprets on canvas her life’s journeys, her love for animals and and the uniqueness of human bodies.

For her recent collection entitled “Beyond the Womb”, she drew her inspiration from the trials of becoming a mother, in her case, the difficulty to conceive.

“The paintings were done over a course of time when I was going through my journey to conceive. It was a significant and dark period of my life filled with frustration, but it ended with relief,” shared the artist.

An exhibit opening is a good reason to celebrate but the artist had two more causes to raise the glass. It was also her birthday and most importantly, she proudly introduced her greatest source of inspiration to date—her child.

Seen at the exhibition were the artist’s guests of honor— Elizabeth Zimmerman, Gene Bangayan and Honorary Consul of Hungary Baby Montemayor and Marco Polo GM Collin Healy; the Chinese Consul General Li Lin; the Gaisano and Lee families; good friends; artists Benjie Yu, Dinky Munda and Daryl Descallar; and the city’s art lovers.
