Police ‘guard’ mayor’s house

SEVEN armed police officers wearing masks were spotted outside the house of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña in Barangay Guadalupe on Saturday, May 11.

“ATM: 7 masked police with military fatigues and M16s parked right outside my house. Their faces are completely covered with masks, hats and sunglasses. They refuse to come down or say anything,” read Osmeña’s post on Facebook.

The post was accompanied by photos of the police officers.

In the photos the mayor uploaded, a patrol car with body number 02 and plate number SKT 430 was also seen outside his house.

When asked what the police were doing there, Osmeña, in a text message, replied that they were just waiting for the right moment to plant something. However, he did not elaborate on what he meant by “something” and where they were supposed to plant it.

After he posted the photos on his social media account, some of the mayor’s supporters showed up and gathered outside his house.

In a succeeding post, Osmeña said the police officers left when members of the media started to arrive.

“Col. (Royina) Garma (Cebu City Police Office director), if your goons were outside my house for a ‘legitimate police operation,’ then why did they cover their faces and leave as soon as media arrived?” Osmeña said.

For months, Osmeña has been complaining that police have been harassing and intimidating his allies and supporters. (RVC)
