1 killed, 1 injured in Calbayog shooting

ONE person was killed and another one was injured in a shooting incident in Calbayog City, Saturday, May 11.

Authorities identified the victims as Manuel Sajul, 48, and Joseph Ortega, a Calbayog City Hall employee, both residents of the city.

An initial police report said the two were onboard a black Mitsubishi Adventure when they were ambushed by two still unidentified gunmen which resulted to the death of Ortega who was said to be the driver of the vehicle.

After they were hit, Sajul managed to maneuver the vehicle and called for help before he was brought to a hospital for immediate medical attention.

The Calbayog City Police are investigating the incident that occurred around 4:00 p.m. along P-4 in Barangay Marcatubig.

According to the police, at least 13 shooting incidents were reported in the city from January 13 to May 9.

Meanwhile, another Calbayog resident was also shot dead Saturday morning after he and his companions were walking from Barangay Lower Caynaga, Lope de Vega, Northern Samar heading towards Barangay Naguma, Calbayog.

Police identified the dead victim Randy Mateo, 45, and a resident of Barangay Naguma.

His two companions Semito Mateo and Emma Mateo, 44 and a barangay captain, both from Calbayog, sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately brought to a hospital in Calbayog.

Responding policemen recovered from the crime scene two empty shells of caliber .45.

The perpetrators, who remain at large, carted away cash money amounting to P300,000, the police said. (SunStar Philippines)
