Town mayor cries foul over ‘libelous’ leaflets

THE Las Catellana Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed to have received a complaint from La Castellana reelectionist Mayor Rhumyla Manguilimitan that leaflets and printed libelous materials against her were distributed in the town.

The police identified the suspect who was caught circulating such materials in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana as Reynaldo Dela Torre, 54, and resident of the Barangay.

The police report further stated that at 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Manguilimutan caught in the act the said suspect while he was actually distributing leaflets and printed libelous material degrading and slandering her and her family.

The suspect is allegedly a supporter/coordinator of Felix “Chad” Feria who is a mayoralty candidate opposing Manguilimutan.

In another report, 50, reportedly committed suicide inside his house Purok Lampisao, Barangay Zone 3 Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified as Joel Apuhin y Polborosa, 50, and a resident of the said place.

The victim per report of the Talisay City PNP was found by his wife Josephine Apuhin, lifeless and hanging at their kitchen with a nylon rope tied on his neck attached to the wooden roof frame.

Initial investigation revealed that said victim was suffering from stroke and attempted to commit suicide last April 9, 2019. Victim was brought to Talisay City Health Center but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Joy Gladys T Guanzon. Cadaver of the victim was later brought to Manapla Funeral Homes, Silay City. (TDE)
