CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Outgoing Second District Representative and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said she will continue to write her memoir after her term ends this June.
Macapagal-Arroyo cast her vote just before noon at her precinct 0001-A in Barangay San Nicolas 1st in Lubao town. She was registered as voter number 74. It took her only six minutes.
Asked what could be her legacy as a public servant, Arroyo said the legacy of her term as President is more on restoring the country’s fiscal and financial stability. She added that this paved the way for the reduction of the poverty rate in the country from 39 percent to 26 percent.
She also pointed out the “unprecedented infrastructure” projects during her term that had contributed to the country’s development.
“I like to think that my legacy will center on restoring our country’s fiscal stability after the storms on financial crisis here and abroad. The restoration of fiscal stability was the platform for my program that built more and better infrastructures, and that reduced our poverty from 39 percent when I assumed the presidency, to 26 percent when I left the presidency,” she said.
The former President also reiterated that she will concentrate on writing her memoirs when her term ends on June 30.
Arroyo also confirmed that the Provincial Government of Pampanga had asked her to be a consultant. A detail on her consultancy status has yet to be formalized by the Provincial Government.
