THE Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) said the unscheduled power interruptions that occurred in Panacan and Tibungco in Davao City an hour before the start of voting was restored immediately.

DLPC assistant vice president of the Reputation Enhancement Department Rossano Luga said they were prepared for such circumstances and have prepared contingency plans so as not to affect the voting period.

He said they temporarily transferred power load from the affected substation to nearby lines.

In their Facebook page posted Monday, May 13, the DLPC apologized for the inconvenience and reported that Davao Light substation engineers have conducted immediate repairs in the said substation to avoid recurrence of the incident.

Luga said they have made preparations before, during, and after 2019 Election Day in Davao City just to make sure no major incidents will happen.

“Before the election, there was a coordination with the concerned government offices particularly Comelec and DepEd (Department of Education) within our franchise area, including giving a briefing on electrical concerns during the conference in three districts with Election Officers and Assistants and school principals as audience,” Luga said.

Other preparations were identifying polling precincts, advising the DepEd and the Comelec to check load-side electrical connections, providing those government agencies a list of accredited electrician, and information dissemination, among others.

They also deployed emergency service crews in strategic areas for fast response to emergency calls and Davao Light Contact Center has been available 24/7.

“On power supply, since it is a holiday on May 13, industries and offices will be closed, hence a low power demand is expected. Therefore, there will be ample power supply to meet the demand,” he said.
