Some poll machines malfunction in Bacolod

SOME of the voter registration verification machines (VRVMs) in Bacolod City malfunctioned and were not used in the midterm elections on Monday, May 13.

Stella Fulo, chairman of Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPRCV) in Barangay Granada, said before the opening of all polling precincts in Asuncion L. Lizares Elementary School (ALLES) and Patricia Homes Elementary School, the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) found out that the VRVMs were not functioning.

“There’s no problem with the vote counting machines (VCMs) only the VRVM malfunctioned,” she said.

She added they immediately informed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and they were advised to follow the manual procedure in finding the names of the voters on their lists.

ALLES has a total of 12 precincts and another two precincts in Patricia Homes Elementary School in said barangay.

The PPCRV in Barangay Granada has a total of 52 volunteers who assisted to locate the names of the voters in the Comelec official lists as well as their precinct numbers.

Every polling precinct has a priority lane for senior citizens, person with disabilities among others.

Bacolod City has a total of 312, 816 voters with 353 clustered precincts and 45 voting centers.

Re-electionist City Mayor Evelio Leonardia casted his vote at Education and Training Center School-III along with his wife Elsa and daughter Loren Kara at 2 p.m.

Leonardia’s opponent Jocelle Batapa-Sigue casted her vote at Alfredo Montelibano Sr. Elementary School. (MAP)
