THE queen of the Cokaliong family, Gregoria Cokaliong, was honoree at a lauriat dinner at the Grand Convention Center on the occasion of her 83rd birthday. A sea of red greeted the petite lady as she made her grand entrance on the arm of her grandson Chad. Red was the color of the night but the birthday lady was in a sweet pink number. She was dazzling and “dripping” with diamonds. Yes, her necklace was flashing brightly all through the night as well as her beautiful earrings.

Eldest son, Chester (Cokaliong Shipping Lines chief executive officer/chief operating officer) was the perfect host who was here, there and everywhere with wife Anna Lynne. Their son Chase gave words of welcome in Chinese while daughter, lawyer Chesna, welcomed the guests in English. She also conducted the raffling off of door prizes which included trips for two to Hongkong, Singapore and Taipei.

In his tribute, Chester proudly stated that their mother Gregoria is the family’s role model in business because of her “acute business acumen” which has been passed on not only to her children but to the third generation as well.

Program emcee was Eva Marie Poon who easily switched from English to Chinese, and who rendered some songs. Other entertainers include the Cebu Events String Ensemble, the Angel Wings Fire Dancers and the Dream Catchers.


It was a surprise party for Zony Borromeo Escario cooked up by loving daughters Corito E. Yu and Janice E. King to celebrate the start of her eighth decade. Venue was the Cuarto Mercedes of Montebello Villa Hotel, that night transformed into a Mexican taverna because the party theme was the Mexican celebration called Cinco de Mayo. Zony was speechless when she entered the festive hall, and found relatives and close friends singing the birthday song,

True to the Mexican theme, the dinner menu was authentic Mexican with enchiladas, nachos, guacamole, tortillas etc. Entertaiment came in the form of Mexican dances performed by the Sandiego Dance Troupe and songs from artist/singer Gil Maningo. For the special tribute, program host Mary Rose Maghuyop called on the immediate family members for musical numbers.

Corito and Janice didnt leave any stone unturned to give their Mom an 80th birthday to remember.


Loving family trooped to the well-appointed home of known civic worker and erstwhile businesswoman Felisa Yap Chiongbian when she turned all of 97 years old. Now a complete homebody, she is happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


For young lady Jodi Galbo, it was a birthday concert at the Pristina North Clubhouse to celebrate her turning 15. Dubbed “I Enjoy Being a Girl... Jodi @ 15,” the concert was to celebrate life, love and music. Jodi has been under the tutulege of Bel Cuore Voice Pro founder Chacha Blanco since she was 12 years old. Her supportive parents are doctor Pherdes and Michelle (Chiong) Galbo.


Happy faces surrounded doctor Anthony Lim, chairman of the Cebu Landmark Development Corp. when he marked his birthday. It was a red-letter day indeed with everyone in festive red.
