FORTY-NINE individuals were arrested for violating the liquor ban pursuant to the provisions of the Omnibus Election Code Resolution 10429.

Of the 49 arrested persons, 47 were arrested in Baguio City, while the two were accosted in Bontoc, Mountain Province.

"There were 47 individuals arrested in Baguio City pursuant to the provisions of the Omnibus Election Code on the liquor ban or en banc Resolution 10429," said Colonel Allen Rae Co, Baguio City Police Office acting city director.

He said the arrests were recorded from 12:01 a.m. of May 12 until noon of May 13.

Co said the liquor ban was imposed to prevent violent incidents or crime that may be committed by people under the influence of alcohol.

"Selling and drinking of alcoholic beverages in public are prohibited as well as in establishments, except those certified by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as tourist-oriented," he said.

Co said the arrested persons are all of legal age. Of the 47 arrested, 37 were caught drinking at Akira Bar on Magsaysay Avenu, seven were caught drinking in Cabana Bar and Eatery, and five were caught in Tapao West Quirino Hill. They were all nabbed on May 12.

He said all arrested individuals are now under the custody of the police while appropriate charges are being prepared against them for violation of the election liquor ban.

On the same day, two persons were arrested at Bryan Lee's Food House in Kalang-ad Building Pakkil, Caluttit, Bontoc, Mountain Province. (With a report from PNA)
