Romeo Salda gets new mandate

INCUMBENT Mayor Romeo Salda scored a landslide victory for the town's chief executive post.

Salda gained 23,814 votes, getting another term and edging incumbent Vice Mayor Joey Marerro, who garnered 8,187 votes.

In the vice mayoralty race, incumbent Councilor Roderick Awingan won with 13,469, defeating Councilors Horacio Ramos and Henry Kipas with 10,467 and 7,521 votes, respectively.

Nestor Fongwan Jr. topped the municipal council race with 15,970, followed by newly elected Jason Dangwa with 14,030 votes, incumbent Councilor Renato Tereng with 13,795 votes, Councilor Guiller Galwan with 13,446 votes and Councilor Arthur Shontogan with 13,052 votes.

Others who made it to the town council are comebacking former councilors John Botiwey (13,265), Francis Lee (10,668) and Ted Walang (9,524).

Final results from the 57 precincts in the 16 barangays were released at 10:45 p.m. Monday, May 13, following the proclamation of Board of Canvassers led by Commission on Elections lawyer Rodante Salpaten.

Salpaten acknowledged the orderly and peaceful elections in the municipality with the help of the teachers, local government unit of La Trinidad, Philippine National Police, candidates and their supporters.

"This is the fruit of our collective efforts," he said. "In this election, Filipinos are not the only winning candidate but the people of La Trinidad because of their common goal that is to have an honest, orderly and peaceful elections which have been attained."

Salda, meanwhile, acknowledged all volunteers, supporters, coordinators and the municipality of La Trinidad for giving him another chance to serve the town.

Salda, for his second term, plans to continue his programs and plans for the progress of La Trinidad. He also thanked Marerro for his support.
