Comelec: 75% voter turnout in Negros Occidental

ABOUT 75 percent of the nearly 1.9 million registered voters in Negros Occidental were able to cast their votes in the May 13 elections.

Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Negros Occidental Supervisor Atty. Tictac Villanueva said the turnout is based on the transmitted results from 20 localities in Negros Occidental. About 11 localities were not yet able to transmit results as of press time due to defective SD cards.

Villanueva said the SD cards are not corrupted but of poor quality and replacements would be made.

Areas that have not yet transmitted results to the Provincial Board of Canvassers are Victorias City, Talisay City, Sipalay City, Silay City, San Enrique, San Carlos City, Sagay City, Kabankalan City, Escalante City, Cadiz City and Bago City.

Villanueva said even if they will lower the threshold, they cannot yet proceed with the proclamations of some provincial candidates because the printing of the Certificates of Canvass cannot be made through the system.

Expected to be proclaimed today, May 15, according to Villanueva, are unopposed Fifth District Representative Marilou Arroyo-Lesaca and newly elected Board Members Ernesto Agustin Bascon and Rita Gatuslao.
