AWARD-WINNING material innovator and sustainable manufacturer Nature’s Legacy won the Eco-Design Award in the recently-concluded Manila Fame 2019 held at the World Trade Center Manila from April 25 to 27.

The winning piece called the Sunburst wall decal is made from a proprietary material called Nucast, a recycled paper composite that is lightweight, organic and contains no volcanic organic compound, making its parts safe to consume.

The invention can mimic the look and feel of natural finite materials such as stone and metal but does not degrade as easily. Nucast has also been archived in the Material Connexion Library in New York for being one of the “world’s most innovative and eco-sustainable materials.”

The Sunburst wall was conceptualized by Studio Legacy, the design arm of Nature’s Legacy.

“At the heart of every Nature’s Legacy design is our strong pursuit to make it as sustainable as possible. As designers, we should be mindful that it not only eliminates waste, but turns waste-to-be into valuable resources,” Studio Legacy creative director Katrina Delantar said.

To date, Nature’s Legacy has upcycled 20,000 kilograms of waste paper, turning them into high-value Nucast pieces such as furnishing, home decor, architectural elements and novelty items.

Manila Fame is an annual exhibition organized by the Department of Trade and Industry through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.

The exhibition is the second longest-running trade show in Asia Pacific. Its upcoming show will be held in October. (PR)
