City Council urged to declare CPP/NPA as persona non grata

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has asked the City Council to declare the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as persona non grata.

In his letter dated May 2 addressed to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, BCPO acting director Police Colonel Henry Binas said that some local government units in the areas of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao already declared the CPP/NPA as persona non grata.

He said the declaration was made citing the continued acts of violence, terrorism, violent extremism and other forms of lawlessness, oppression, and harassment of the communist insurgents to the people.

“Said acts are manifestation that the communist insurgents only bring extreme poverty and misery to the people,” he added.

Binas has asked the City Council to pass a resolution on their regular session on Wednesday, May 15.

For his part, Familiaran said the BCPO’s request was already referred to the committee on police matters.

He said it will depend on the deliberation of the City Council next week.
