Sungduan: 19th Montanyosa Bibak

MORE than 300 Cordilleran Overseas Filipino Workers gathered at Toa Payoh Pavilion, Singapore to celebrate the 19th year anniversary of Montanyosa Bibak.

The anniversary of the group whose members hail from the different provinces of the Cordillera once again showed the strong unity of the Cordillerans working in the Lion City and their passion in preserving and promoting their rich cultural heritage even in the foreign land.

Montanyosa Bibak secretary and event coordinator Julie Balaoin Damong said every month of May is always something to look forward to. The event is one reason for gathering all Igorots to be together in a very memorable fellowship.

As the sound of gangsa and indigenous instruments echoed in the air, dancers performed their favorite traditional dances and enjoined everyone to be part in the community dance.

Every province also presented a one-of-a-kind presentation showing the rich culture and tradition of the Cordillera and talent as shown by the team from Bontoc Mountain Province, Abra, Ifugao, and Team Baket.

An activity for charity work supported by sponsors was also one of the highlights of the event. The aim of the project is to deliver school supplies to intended beneficiaries in the Cordillera.

Montanyosa Bibak president Rogelio Dingsa led the celebration attended by 186 members and other OFWs.

The organization was founded by Virgie Bosiley from Sagada and Virginia Monzano from Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Being part of a group where you feel at home abroad is a big help for OFWs as it is one way of reducing homesickness and also anxiety.

Montanyosa Bibak charity works is laudable and will surely help a lot of needy community in the Cordillera.
