* THAT RADIO BROADCASTER WHO COPIED TOMAS. Marlon "Bong" Simbajon of Zamboanga City, who lost his bid for a seat in that city's Sanggunian, plagiarized Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña's concession message. Specifically, the "don't-feel-sorry-for-me" part. Tomas, or the one running the mayor's FB page, reproduced the two messages, with the comment, "Do your own homework, oi, hehe."
A Rappler reporter's advice to the radio network man: Attribute to the source of the material. Bzzzzz's: Hire your own writer or get one for free.
* "I DON'T CARE IF I LOSE IN 2019." Quoted in a Rappler story of October 10, 2018, recalled by City Hall watchers on Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña's defeat in 2019. The mayor said "if." It was conditional but the condition happened.
No chance for Cebu's son?
There's a teeny-weeny chance for Cebu's Senator Sergio Osmeña III to make it to the winning circle in the election for senators. The next Congress will open June 30, most probably with no Cebuano in the Senate.
Serge stands #17 in the tally, as of May 16 (Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. with 97.36 percent of the election returns reported). Between him (9,338,144) and 12th placer Nancy Binay, 14,355,673, Serge has to tackle and push down four other aspirants: Mar Roxas, Jinggoy Estrada, Bam Aquino, and JV Ejercito.
Serge has not done well in Cebu, his native city and province.
* In the province, he placed only #10, polling 539,157, with Cynthia Villar, Bong Go, Pia Cayetano, Bato de la Rosa, and Grace Poe getting more votes than he did.
* In Cebu City, which Osmeña's brother Tomas has ruled for decades, Serge placed only #6 in the magic 12, getting fewer votes, 270,340, than (in this order) Villar, 334,294, Go, Cayetano, de la Rosa, and Angara. [As of Thursday, May 16, 10:05 a.m. and 100 percent of the returns.]
* In Lapu-Lapu City, Serge placed #10, with 57,358, also as of May 16, at 5:06 p.m. with 100 percent of the returns.
This will be Serge's second loss in the run for the Senate. He had served three terms as senator but he lost in his 2016 bid, landing #14. Earlier, in 1992, he ran for congressman in Cebu's sixth district but lost.
Mocha Uson's loss
AA Kasosyo has failed to secure a single seat in the House. Mocha Uson's party-list failed to get one percent of the total votes: only 116,815.
Uson's blog boasts of five million followers. Her party-list's loss and her failure to get a seat as congresswoman may mean:
* Her blog does not have so many warm bodies as advertised.
* She may have a large following but not many want or like her to hold an elective public office: awareness is only the first part; the second part is the desire to vote for her.
* It's not for lack of campaigning, as presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo says, since her blog is supposed to campaign for her, the way a TV show or film does for an actor.
