Pads eye 3-peat in Hong Kong race

THE Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc. (Pads) DragonBoat Team will try to complete a three-peat in the 2019 CCB Hong Kong International DragonBoat Races set for June 14 to 17.

“We are preparing for the race in Hong Kong. It will be a tough challenge but we will try to get the grand slam,” said Pads executive John Paul Maunes on Thursday, May 16.

Pads will use the competition in Hong Kong as a preparation for the team’s biggest race—the DragonBoat World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand on Aug. 20 to 26.

“The team’s training started since last March. The race in Hong Kong would be a good test for us as we prepare for the world championships,” he said.

Pads earned the right to represent the country after being selected by the Philippine DragonBoat Federation as the representative for the para-division, a newly-added class for paddlers with disabilities.

Pads recently organized the 2019 Dragonboat Regatta at the Bayfront Il Corso Mall, South Road Properties last May 4 to 5 to raise funds for expenses to the world championships. The event was attended by various teams from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The next fund-raising for Pads is the Synergy-Pads Half Marathon set on June 30 at the SM City Cebu in North Reclamation Area. The fun run will feature 21-kilometer, 12K, 8K and 4K categories. (RSC)
