THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Mandaue City has urged the winning and losing candidates in the midterm elections last May 13 to clean the city of their campaign materials.

Assistant Election Officer Jacqueline Reuyan said the Comelec cannot do the cleaning alone because it lacks manpower.

Reuyan said she received a report that the supporters of outgoing Mandaue Mayor Luigi Quisumbing and Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna have started pulling down their tarps and posters.

Quisumbing and Fortuna ran in the last election, seeking fresh terms. But they lost to Rep. Jonas Cortes (Cebu, 6th district) and his running mate, the vice mayoral candidate Glenn Bercede.

On Thursday morning, reporters caught Quisumbing’s supporters cleaning Barangay Paknaan of their election materials.

Reuyan said Cortes’s supporters have also started removing their campaign materials.

She is hoping that the supporters of the candidates for the Senate and partylist groups will follow suit. (From FMD of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
