Arroyo: I want to excite the people of the 5th District

“I WANT to excite the people of the fifth district through improving health services, education and infrastructure for their livelihood. It is now time to go to work and deliver for the people.”

This is the message of newly-elected fifth district Representative Maria Lourdes Arroyo-Lesaca after her proclamation last Wednesday, May 15, by the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol.

She was the first provincial official officially proclaimed by the PBOC.

She garnered a total vote of 105,227 as unopposed candidate.

Arroyo, sister-in-law of former President and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, said that she is thankful to God for giving her the privilege to serve the people in the district.

“I am grateful for this rare opportunity to run for our district's congressional seat without any opposing candidate. However, I believe the real opposition, which applies for all the people of the fifth district, are poverty and underdevelopment,” Arroyo-Lesaca said.

She also appealed for everyone to help each other. “Politics is over so let's start working,” she said.

Arroyo-Lesaca is also eyeing for the improvement of the tourism potentials of the fifth district to boost its economy by having more banks, shopping malls and other major infrastructure projects.

Arroyo-Lesaca also said that she will be staying at the district and she will no longer be in a wheelchair in June.

About the dominance of the same families in the country's politics, Arroyo-Lesaca said, “This is a free country. The results of the election is the voice of the people and we cannot stop that,” Arroyo- Lesaca said.
