Ace, 2 eagles highlight Day 1 of View Invitational

A HOLE-IN-ONE and two eagles highlighted the start of The View Invitational Thursday at the par-72 Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

Sergio Gonzalez knocked in his tee shot on the 150-yard hole No. 6 to win P100,000 cash from the tournament committee and a business class roundtrip ticket to any regional destination from Philippine Airlines.

The 71-year-old Gonzalez was in the company of his partner June Llena, lawyer and newspaper columnist Ellie Espinoza and Jun Belara when he scored the feat.

In case another player will score an ace on the three designated holes for the cash prize and the airline ticket (2, 6, and 13), the prizes will have to be equally shared.

Two eagles were also scored on the first day of the four-day event. The eagle scorers will share the Skygo motorcycle at stake for an eagle on any par-4 hole.

Lawyer Marco Mendoza knocked in his second shot on the par-4 14th hole, which was witnessed by Enrico Solon, Eric Kong, and Joaquin Velez.

Mendoza scored two eagles during the round as he also knocked in his third shot on the par-5 7th.

Also scoring an eagle on the 14th hole was Alfredo Cabajar, Jr. This was witnessed by Jimmy Vicaldo, Eric Prado, and Wilson Calderon. (PR)
