Wilson Gamboa: I will be the fiscalizer

“IT'S very challenging and I’m pressured.”

This was stressed by re-elected incumbent Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. on Friday, May 17, after he was proclaimed as winner and the lone survivor of the opposition group of Asenso para sa Buwas-damlag sang Bacolodnon-Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan (ABB-MKK).

Gamboa occupied the last spot of the councilor race in this year’s elections.

Of 27 candidates, Gamboa garnered 87,301 votes.

Majority of the winners were from the Grupo Progreso led by reelectionists Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Representative Greg Gastaya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and the 11 newly elected councilors reelectionists Councilor Cindy Rojas, Renecito Novero, Simple Distrito, Carl Lopez, Al Espino, Archie Baribar, Israel Salanga, Dindo Ramos, Bartolome Orola, Ana Marie Palermo, and Elmer Sy.

The 11 other candidates elected for councilor were Grupo Progreso candidates reelectionist Cindy Rojas, who got 135,011 votes; reelectionist Renecito Novero - 131,672 votes; Barangay Singcang-Airport Kagawad Simple Distrito - 123,194 votes; former councilor Carl Lopez - 119,883 votes; former councilor Al Espino - 116,412 votes; former councilor Archie Baribar - 114,567 votes; youth leader Israel Salanga - 114,300 votes; reelectionist Dindo Ramos - 108,218 votes; reelectionist Bartolome Orola; reelectionist Ana Marie Palermo; and reelectionist Elmer Sy.

“I was relieved of the apprehensions during the last counting of the four corrupted secure digital (SD) cards. I’m happy on the results that finally I made it to number 12, but I’m also pressured because of the expectation of the people of Bacolod as the last remaining opposition in the City Council,” Gamboa said.

He said it is his mandate to the people of Bacolod to fiscalize and to check the excesses of the government.

“The pillars of democracy are the majority and the opposition (minority). Each plays a vital role. Thus the role of the fiscalizer or the oppositionist is as vital as the role of the majority. Like my late father, I will assume the role of fiscalizer. I will take stock myself to be very vigilant. I will study and understand all the agenda and transaction of the City Government of Bacolod and bring to the scrutinizing public light these agenda and transactions that is clearly inimical and injurious to the City and to the People of Bacolod,” he added.

Gamboa also expressed his gratitude to all the people who helped him for almost eight months in the campaign, his family, partymates and supporters.
