Food with floral blair

ON A regular day, flowers would be given to a loved one or used as an ornament. But when feeling a little adventurous, flowers can be part of a sumptuous meal. Yes! It can be off-putting to eat something that we’ve always associated with bouquets or décor, but when done right, it’s surprisingly quite good.

In the spirit of Flores de Mayo, check out these four food places where you can get some flowers—and eat them, too!

The Buzzz Cafe by Bohol Bee Farm

Where: Level 1, Verandah, Robinsons Galleria Cebu; Lower Ground Floor, Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

The cafe’s organic salad is more than just healthy, it’s a pretty dish, too! Aside from the standard crisp lettuce, The Buzzz Cafe spruces up the classic salad with the addition of vibrant, fresh edible flowers. It comes with a zesty dressing for added flavor.

Magnum Pleasure Store

Where: Upper Ground Floor, Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu

In this DIY (Do It Yourself)kiosk, one can fully customize a Magnum bar, from the flavor of the ice cream and coating down to the drizzle and toppings. There are the go-to toppings like chocolate balls and sliced pistachios, but there’s one atypical option: dried rose petals. Who knew an ice cream bar could look so dainty?

Planet Vegis

Where: E. Osmeña St., Guadalupe, Cebu City; Second Floor, Enclave Building, Parkmall, Mandaue City

This humble establishment has championed the art of vegetarian cooking. Part of its sumptuous buffet is a savory dish made with the Banana Blossom, or locally known as puso sa saging, mixed with coconut milk for a creamy consistency.

The Chocolate Chamber Cafe

Where: Level 1, Verandah, Robinsons Galleria Cebu

Nothing is more comforting than a cup of hot rich chocolate, right? But The Chocolate Chamber amps up its version of this well-loved beverage by infusing it with hibiscus, or as what is more familiar to us as gumamela. The floral notes come together beautifully with the rich taste of the cacao.
