Y-Speak: Braving the Rigors

TEACHERS are the “heroes of the season.” Teachers play a vital role in shaping the country’s future especially during election time. It is just fair and right to be called “election heroes” so to speak.

Teachers had unselfishly rendered their time and effort to ensure a clean and honest election. Though affirmed by some that they were working like beasts of burden in polls, yet it is obvious that they managed to patiently perform their duties and responsibilities with utmost dedication and commitment. Teachers contributed largely in the success of the 2019 National and Local Election.

Marie Iris Maquindang, chairman of the electoral board in Cluster Precinct 374 at Don Manuel H. Gutierrez, Matina, Davao City as the polling place, shared her unforgettable experiences before, during and after election.

“We underwent rigid training to make sure that we are ready and capable of doing the work. We took the written and practical exams to test our mastery. We were also oriented on guidelines, processes and procedures for the final testing and sealing and also for the Election Day. Those were all productive because we became equipped and confident,” she said.

Despite the tedious work, she has expressed the feeling of fulfilment doing the work especially on Election Day.

“I cannot deny that the work itself is difficult especially catering numerous and different attitudes of voters that day but helping them to exercise their right of suffrage and ensuring that the election was a success is much more important to me,” she added.

My grandest salute to all teachers for being the vanguards of democracy!

My highest regard to all teachers as one of the nation’s heroes to promote peace and independenc; who gave their best to become part of the unforgettable history-2019 Election. Unselfish. Brave. Resilient! (Janice D. Montalvo, Deped-Matina District)
