Woman leader: Cindy Rojas re-elected as no.1 Bacolod councilor

INCUMBENT Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas of Grupo Progreso, was re-elected as number one councilor of Bacolod.

Of 27 candidates, Rojas garnered 135, 011 votes who is now on her second term.

On Thursday morning, May 16, Rojas along with 14 others newly-elected city officials were proclaimed winners by the Board of Canvassers (BOC) led by City Election registrar Ann Janette Lamban as chairman, Perico Hernaez as vice chairman and lawyer Giovanni Alfonso Miraflores as secretary at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Social Hall in Bacolod Government Center.

Rojas said she did not expect that she will occupy the number one spot in the councilor race.

“I’m very happy that the people of Bacolod trusted me. Thank you for giving me a chance to serve the city again. It’s overwhelming. Thank you to all those who believe in me,” she said.

Rojas is the first female number one councilor-elect of Bacolod City since the adoption of the 1987 Philippine Constitution. She’s the wife of former Bacolod City Councilor Roberto Rojas. They have two sons.

She’s the daughter of Alfonso Luis Tan and Anita Ong Tan. Rojas joined the politics through the encouragement of her husband, who also finished his three terms as councilor.

Rojas, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Management of University of St. La Salle, vowed to do her best to uphold the trust given to her and to serve the people of Bacolod in every way she can do.

“I am so very grateful to all those who supported me for my second term and rest assured that the mandate you’ve given to me will not be wasted. We will continue our service to deliver the programs and projects to the people of Bacolod,” Rojas said.

Rojas also expressed her gratitude for the support of her family, her parents and her parents in law Enrique Rojas and Lourdes Rojas.

In 2016 elections, Rojas got the third highest votes among councilors with a total of 110, 054 votes.

“This year, having 135, 011 votes are very overwhelming. It’s a testament of how the people of Bacolod trusted my brand of service,” Rojas said.

At present, Rojas is chairperson of the City Council committee on women and gender, committee on environment and ecology and committee on family and child care development.

Aside from Rojas, there are also two other women newly-elected as councilors. They are incumbent Councilors Ana Marie Palermo and Simple Distrito.
