Police: Seminario de Jesus Nazareno explosion caused by firecracker

THE alleged explosion inside the Seminario de Jesus Nazareno in Borongan City, Eastern Samar was due to a plastic bag containing unused flash powder from a firecracker, police said on Sunday, May 19.

In an investigation conducted by Borongan City Police Station, the explosion happened at the exit gate of the said seminary in Barangay Campesao.

Eastern Samar-based ESTE News reported that the blast occurred around 6:45 p.m., quoting Father Edmel Raagas, spiritual director of the seminary.

“Traces of said explosion caused no damages or any traces that an Improvised Explosive Device was used, no traces of damages on the concrete pavement was seen,” said the Borongan police.

Authorities recovered one plastic bag containing flash powder and a stone at the scene.

“No damage to properties has been done. We wait for further investigation as promised by the police to determine the motive and who was responsible for the said incident,” the seminary posted online.

Police are still investigating the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
