27 candidates on narco-list win elections

TWENTY-SEVEN politicians on the government’s narco-list won the elections, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde said on Monday, May 20.

“Actually out of the 47 na nasa narco-list, 37 ang tumakbo at 27 ang nanalo, yun ‘yung nasa data namin,” he said in a press conference in Camp Crame.

He refused to divulge the names of the 27 winning candidates.

Albayalde said investigation into the activities of these alleged narco-politicians have continued in order to gather solid evidence against them.

“Well, continuous naman ang pag-iimbestiga sa kanila and as the SILG have said kapag merong nakitang ebidensya laban sa kanila they will be filed cases both criminal and administrative,” he said.

(Our investigation is ongoing. If evidence is found against them, criminal and administrative cases will be filed against them.)

In March, President Rodrigo Duterte identified 46 politicians allegedly involved in illegal drugs operations.

The list includes 35 mayors, seven vice-mayors, one provincial board member and three members of the House of Representatives.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government filed administrative charges of grave misconduct, conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, conduct unbecoming of a public officer, and gross neglect of duty against the 46 politicians before the Office of the Ombudsman.
