'Concerned' Duterte awaiting results of probe into LRT-2 collision

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has expressed concern over the collision between two coaches of Light Rail Transit (LRT) - Line 2 over the weekend, which left at least 34 people injured, MalacaƱang said on Monday, May 20.

Speaking to Palace reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President is awaiting the results of the investigation into the accident.

"Of course the President is concerned that's why he's waiting for the result of the investigation. The whys and the wherefores of the accident," Panelo said.

"I suppose he reads the news. And the management of that outfit has already apologized to the public and is conducting an investigation on that matter. So we will be waiting for the report. The President will be waiting for a report of the incident," he added.

A defective LRT-2 train rammed another train on the eastbound lane between Cubao and Anonas stations in Quezon City on Saturday night, May 18, hurting 30 commuters and four train personnel.

The Department of Transportation and the LRT Authority have apologized for the incident and already formed a fact-finding committee to determine the cause.

"Yes, of course," Panelo said, when asked if the President would hold those responsible for the collision accountable, if investigation finds any negligence on the part of concerned individuals. (SunStar Philippines)
