WILL Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña be able to sell a three-hectare lot in the South Road Properties (SRP) before his term ends on June 30?
City Hall officials have been saying since January that there are two interested buyers, but no bidding has been conducted yet.
Assistant City Administrator Veronica Morelos said the bids and awards committee (BAC) will convene Tuesday, May 21, to decide on the date of the bidding.
“We have yet to receive any directive from the mayor. Most probably the members of the BAC will meet tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21) and agree on the date of bidding if we can muster a quorum,” she said.
In the early days of his term, Osmeña said he was confident the City would be able to sell the property.
Mayor-elect Edgardo Labella earlier asked Osmeña where the buyers of the lot are, considering that it has been two years since the City Council passed the ordinance that allows the mayor to sell the land.
The bidding of the lots has been postponed three times already.
The BAC earlier set the first bidding last Jan. 23 but it was moved to Feb. 8. It was again moved to April 23.
Last April 23, the BAC was not able to hold the bidding because they did not receive the written guidance from Osmeña.
Cebu Landmasters Inc. and the Manila-based developer Federal Land have signified interest to join the bidding.
Federal Land offered to buy the 29,881-square-meter lots, labeled as Lots 1-F-8 and 1-H-1, at P115,000 per square meter with a total purchase price of P3.4 billion.
Morelos said the City will still accept the offer of interested bidders for the property.
“If there are still interested bidders, we will still accept them since we have yet to conduct the bidding,” she said. (RVC)
