THE Rotary Club of Bacolod-Marapara, in partnership with the Sugar Tee Foundation, conducted its annual surgical and dental mission in Bata Subdivision, Bacolod City on Saturday, May 18.

Volunteer medical personnel, led by club president Dr. James Bilbao, plus dentists from the Philippines Dental Association, led by Rotarian Dr. Selwyn Baloyo, and a medical team from La Salle Tambal Group were on hand to treat some 110 barangay members and their children, who availed themselves of dental work and minor surgery. Medicines were also distributed free-of-charge.

The Rotaract Club of Bacolod-Marapara, the Interact Club of Marapara and club member, retired US nurse Lani Ferrer, were also present to assist.

Said Dr. Bilbao, “We are once again pleased to have this opportunity to bring medical services to the people of Bata. Medical attention is important to the community and medical missions have a key role to play in helping those less fortunate in our society.

“We are most grateful for the strong support shown by the medical volunteers who gave up their time to be of service to the people of Bata.”

Apart from medical missions, the club undertakes many other community activities each year. Its main fund-raising event is the annual “Rotary-Golf for a Cause” tournament which will be held this year on June 8 and 9 at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club.
