Leonardia forms Charter Day body

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued an executive order (EO) organizing the support committees for the Bacolod City Charter Day.

Leonardia, who signed the EO on May 9, said on June 18, 1938, President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 326 proclaiming the Cityhood of Bacolod.

He said the celebration of the Bacolod City Charter Day, shall be organized by the city government particularly it’s officials and employees, whose active participation is very essential to the success and significance of this important occasion.

“This year will be the first celebration of the Bacolod City Charter Day after Republic Act No. 11146 was signed into law, thus making it a very special and momentous event,” he added.

Republic Act No. 11146 also known as “An Act declaring June 18 of every year a special non-working holiday in the City of Bacolod, Province of Negros Occidental, to be known as the Bacolod City Charter Day, in commemoration of the Day President Quezon signed and approved into effect Commonwealth No. 326, creating the City of Bacolod,” was signed into law on November 8, 2018.

The committee was chaired by Leonardia with his senior co-chairman Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran, co-chairman Councilors Em Ang and Cindy Rojas, and executive director City Administrator John Orola.

The committee will formulate, plan and secure the essential budget, technical and human resource in support for the effective implementation and execution for the celebration as well as facilitate the involvement and participation, and coordinate with persons, agencies and organization, both government and private sectors, ensuring that the celebration is well run and a success.
