TO HELP make the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Central Visayas a bribery-free, impartial and objective government agency, its officials and personnel led the signing of a covenant between their new recruits at the Regino Mercado Night High School on Tuesday, May 21.

BFP-Central Visayas Regional Director F/Senior Superintendent Gilbert Dolot said the pact is part of their close-monitoring to eradicate irregularities in their recruitment process.

This after an applicant from Bohol, whom he did not name, filed a formal complaint against a civilian for allegedly asking him money in exchange for an assurance that he will be admitted to the job.

“So nahuli itong sibilyan na ito, siguro sinasabing may kakilala sa BFP, and we have another complainants from the applicants na nag-file then ng reklamo. Ayaw na nating maulit dahil ito nga sila vulnerable ito dahil gusto nilang makakuha ng trabaho, baka mabiktima,” he said.

(This civilian was caught red-handed, maybe claimed that he/she knows someone from the BFP. We have complainants from the applicants who filed a complaint. We don't want this incident to happen again because the applicants are vulnerable to scams because they are seeking for jobs.)

The incident happened in Negros Oriental Saturday, May 11. The civilian will face charges for committing the crime of Estafa.

Dolot said around 430 out of the not less than 600 applicants passed the medical exams and will proceed to their standardized written exams.

The BFP is looking for 3,000 new firefighters nationwide; 264 of these slots will be filled by applicants from Central Visayas.

Dolot said applicants must be college graduates and must not have any criminal records.

“We need engineers, architects, accountants (graduates). Tapos mga IT (Information Technology) o programmer kasi iyon ang kailangan ng BFP ngayon. Yun 'yong challenge namin tugunan through manpower. (We also need IT graduates or programmers, because the BFP badly needs right now. The challenges we have to address right now is manpower),” he said.

Rhealyn Lao, 27, an licensed Professional Teacher and one of the applicants, said she was inspired by her husband who is also a fireman.

“Na-inspired ko sa akong husband nga bombero sad. I realized nga mura’g naa pa jud siguro koy lain nga mission and that is on public service. (I was inspired by my husband who happens to be a fireman. I realized that maybe I have a different mission in life through public service). I think that BFP will be fitted to me,” she said.
