2nd International Conference on Arts, culture set in Cebu City

RESEARCHES about culture, arts and design will be shared to the public as the second edition of International Conference on Arts and Culture (Icac) is happening at the the Capitol building’s social hall in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City on May 30-31.

The Culture, Arts and Design Association of the Philippines Foundation Inc. (Cadap-fi) is spearheading the two-day research conference.

Icac carries the theme, “Culture, Arts and Design: A Driver for Sustainable Development.”

The event will be participated by researchers and students from different academic institutions from the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan and Canada.

On the first day, Commission on Higher Education 7 Director Maximo C. Aljibe will present the paper titled “The Role of Cultural Research for Sustainable Development.”

The other lecturers are professors, who hold doctorate degrees from other universities.

Chung-Ping Young of the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan will talk on “Arts and Design for Sustainable Development: The Case of Taiwan,” while Adelaida F. Lucero of the National Research Council of the Philippines will deliver her lecture “Re-engineering Philippine Arts and Cultures towards Sustainable Development.”

The last lecturer of the day will be Lynnettte S. Camello of Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Argao. She will discuss “The History of Hablon de Argao and Its Quest for Sustainable Development.”

Camello is CTU-Argao’s director for education for sustainable development.

On the second day, George Ian Joseph F. Lucero of University of the Philippines-Diliman will share his paper “Baybayin Designs for Sustainable Development,” while University of Cebu’s dance company director Victor H. Cuenco will tackle “Experiential Teaching and Learning through Dance and Choreography.”

The paper titled “Culture and Sustainable Development” will be delivered by Michel Plaisent of the University of Quebec in Canada.

For her part, Nihta V. F. Liando of the Universitas Negeri Manado in Indonesia will tackle “Emerging Literatures in Asia for Sustainable Development.”

Ernesto Mag-ayon, an engineer working for Alcon Industries, will discuss “The Sustainable Development of Fashion Accessories Using Indigenous Materials,” while Bienvenido B. Constantino of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus will deliver “Research and Development in the Art of Music in the Philippines and Its Prospect for Sustainability.”

Teachers and researchers can apply for Cadap-fi membership.

A regular member pays P500 and it should be renewed every year. The other payments are P3,000 for lifetime membership and P5,000 for institutional membership.
