La Trinidad Tourism Week opens

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The celebration of the third tourism week which opens May 21 and ends on the 27th will focus on promoting tourism consciousness for tourists and the community.

“Institutionalized in the third week of May, there should be activities related to tourism, however it is not necessary for tourists actually, it’s for the community for them to be tourism conscious,” municipal tourism officer Valred Olsim said.

A P100,000 funding was allotted for the week-long activity which aims to inculcate the different tourism programs of the Benguet capital town and to create an opportunity for stakeholders to showcase their tourism potentials.

“Usually, tourism programs and projects depends on the people. If the people do not welcome tourism, there will be no support in the programs,” Olsim added.

Olsim said there is a need for more acceptance of tourism from the community with the wide varies of industry of the valley including agriculture as its economic main driver.

Several activities cover the celebration with its opening set to kick off on May 21 at the La Trinidad municipal gym.

Activities for the week include job fair, basic digital photography seminar, medical mission, concert, and product fair among others.

This also include a tour guiding forum on May 23, micro-small medium enterprise forum on May 24, tourism conference May 22, while a creative demonstration on May 26 will showcase talents from Jordan Mang-osan for solar painting and local young artists invited to demonstrate their skills.

Department of Tourism accredited guides are invited to discuss and provide capability skills training to schools of Valley with tourism programs.
