Inventory of establishments near Balili River eyed

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Inventory of households and establishments along Balili River is being eyed by the local government in June to determine those directly discharging waste water in the ailing river.

Mayor Romeo Salda said previous inventories were conducted for poultry and piggery near the river with the succeeding inventory geared towards establishments and houses.

“During the regional development council meeting, one of the suggestions is also to make an inventory, they also want to know the data,” he added.

Arthur Pedro of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office said earlier the Balili River System Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) conducted special meeting to approve the prepared 2019 Balili River WQMA Action Plan.

The action plan was presented and reviewed by the members of the governing board and after incorporating the suggestions and recommendations of the group, the 2019 Balili River System WQMA Action plan was approved.

Pedro added some of the activities for the WQMA have already been initiated, however, there are certain activities that need to be implemented. These include the dredging and desilting activities within the Balili River and its tributaries and survey of encroached areas of the river easement and serving of notice of violations.
