Island Paints secures top spot

ISLAND Paints clinched the No. 1 seed in the Architects+Engineers Basketball Club Corporate Cup 2019 after logging its sixth straight win over Toyota Mabolo, 80-69, last May 18 at the University of San Carlos (USC) main campus gym.

Chester Hinagdanan had a huge night for Island Paints with 27 points, eight rebounds, a steal and two blocks. Chris Matunog and Michael Judilla added 14 points each.

Michael Estrada paced Toyota with 19 markers and nine boards along with two steals. Jett Latonio added a double-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and a block, while Alain Lim chipped in 13.

Meanwhile, Thinking Tools defeated Davies Paints, 78-67.

Arnel Cordero led Thinking Tools with 25 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and one block. Patrick Paran and Niel Tiempo scored 14 apiece, while Jonas Panerio contributed 12.

Michael Cinco exploded with 33 points in a losing effort by Davies Paints. Paul Besinga had 12, while Jun Villacorta and Ferdinand Tiro scored 10 each.

On the other hand, Filmon Dormakaba outclassed Phoenix Building Systems Corp., 77-61.

Ayi Armenion led Filmon with 18 markers, nine rebounds and one block. Jappy Acebedo added 14, Justin Aspacio logged 13 and Arbinson Gabison chipped in 12.

Lawrence Gayotin led Phoenix with 19 points, while Nikko Punay pitched in 10 points. (EKA)
