Central Luzon coach dies

A PRIVATE Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) delegate was confirmed dead due to cardiac arrest on Monday, May 20.

Based on the initial report from the Talomo Police Station, 53-year-old beach volleyball coach of Region 3 Pedrito Salonga, Jr. was found lifeless inside the billeting headquarters at the Maa National High School in Davao City around 4 a.m.

The report also said the coach's brother, Dino Salonga, tried to wake up his brother but he immediately called for medical assistance after noticing that the coach was not responding.

Salonga was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but was declared dead on arrival at about 5:10 a.m.

The attending physician said the cause of death was believed to be cardiac arrest.

Currently, the cadaver of the coach is at the SPMC and will undergo autopsy.

City Health Office (CHO) head Josephine Villafuerte said the city is already preparing for the needed assistance to Pedrito, including the transfer of his body to his hometown in Angeles, Pampanga City.

National Prisaa president Ma. Lita Montalban personally requested Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to assist them.
